I am new to the world of understanding energy and have found it fascinating! I feel like I don’t have the knowledge base to educate people about this area, yet I feel like I would be remiss not including some discussion about the bits that I have learned. I have come to learn that everything is made of and emanates energy, and our energy has significant impacts on our health and well-being. There are now healing modalities that relate directly to this idea of working with your energy. Three that I have come to use are pranic healing, reiki, and Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), also known as “tapping.” I have also experienced acupuncture, tai chi, qigong which are also related to making sure energy is flowing in a healthy way. I have included a diagram of the 7 chakras that describe the energy centers of the body. I have much to learn in these areas, but hopefully, this brief overview will provide some insights into this realm. Again, with being a new student of this area, I quote several resources to provide the information that I think would be most helpful.
“All living things are surrounded and permeated by vital energy that the ancients in different traditions called “life force”. Prana is the Sanskrit word for that life force that sustains us physically, emotionally and mentally. It is known by different names in many cultures. “Prana” is the energy that is moved in Yoga, the “mana” used by kahunas for healing, the “chi” that is manipulated in acupuncture and generated in tai chi, and it is the “ki” used to defend oneself in martial arts such as Aikido. It is the “Ruah” or “manna” mentioned in the bible and what the greek philosophers called “pneuma”.
Pranic healing aims to focus on healing the life force in areas of the body that need attention.”
“Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by “laying on hands” and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one’s “life force energy” is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.
The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words – Rei which means “God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power” and Ki which is “life force energy”. So Reiki is actually “spiritually guided life force energy.”
I have used tapping to address some negative feelings I was experiencing due to a relationship with a colleague. I have also used for a few other purposes, and have found it to be extremely helpful.
An overview of what tapping is:
”All negative emotions are felt through a disruption of the body’s energy. And physical pain and disease are intricately connected to negative emotions. Health problems create feedback – physical symptoms cause emotional distress, and unresolved emotional problems manifest themselves through physical symptoms. So, the body’s health must be approached as a whole. You cannot treat the symptoms without addressing the cause, and vice-versa.
The body, like everything in the universe, is composed of energy. Restore balance to the body’s energy, and you will mend the negative emotions and physical symptoms that stem from the energy disruption. Tapping restores the body’s energy balance, and negative emotions are conquered.
The basic technique requires you to focus on the negative emotion at hand: a fear or anxiety, a bad memory, an unresolved problem, or anything that’s bothering you. While maintaining your mental focus on this issue, use your fingertips to tap 5-7 times each on 12 of the body’s meridian points. Tapping on these meridian points – while concentrating on accepting and resolving the negative emotion – will access your body’s energy, restoring it to a balanced state.”
